ISO 50001 energy management system requirements

ISO 50001 is a standard that sets out the requirements for an organisation’s energy management system. Meeting the requirements of the standard is not difficult in itself, but it is a matter of finding the right solution for your organisation and understanding the content of the requirements.
In 2018, the Estonian government is preparing a regulation that will grant electricity excise duty relief to electro-intensive companies provided they have developed an energy management system that complies with ISO 50001.

Objective

The aim of the training is to increase the participant’s awareness of energy saving and energy management activities by providing practical guidance on designing and developing an energy management system in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 50001 standard.

Content

The training will help answer the following questions:

• What is an Energy Management System (EnMS) and why is it useful?
• What is the EnMS and what is it for? How can EnMS be used to increase energy savings and energy management performance in an organisation?
• How can EnMS help to improve energy efficiency and energy performance, and how can an energy management system contribute to energy savings?
• How can an energy management system be integrated into the day-to-day operations of an organisation?

  The energy management system is part of the overall management system and should be integrated with the rest of the management system, hence the guidance on how to create an integrated management system is also provided. As a result of the training, participants will have the confidence, knowledge and materials necessary to start the successful development of an energy management system.
